A Guide to Feeding Your New Kitten
Good day, kitten lovers! We'd like to give you some essential tips for feeding your new kitten to ensure they have the best possible start in their new home.
Since most kittens are born and raised in different catteries, the food they are given can vary. Generally, kittens in a breederās home are given high-quality brands like Royal Canin āKittenā or Hill's āKitten.ā
The First Few Days
For the first three days in their new home, your kitten should only be fed the food they are accustomed to. On the 4th day, you can start introducing boiled meat. A good mix is 3 parts minced boiled chicken or turkey breast and 1 part well-boiled rice with the cooking liquid. For the next three days, feed your kitten 4 times a day: twice with dry food and twice with the boiled meat and rice mixture.
Transitioning to New Food
Starting from the 7th day, you can begin to introduce a dry food of your choice, about 20-25 grams per day, with the rest of their meals being the meat and rice mixture. Continue this for 4-5 days, then gradually start increasing the volume of the new dry food.
A kitten should eat at least 4 times a day. If the room temperature is high, please donāt leave leftover meat out. Remove it immediately after feeding to ensure freshness.
Important Considerations
- No Milk Products: Avoid giving any milk products within the first two weeks. This adjustment period is crucial for your kitten's digestive health.
- Introducing New Foods: After two weeks, if your kitten is doing well, you can start adding new products like a kitten paste. Start with a tiny amount (1 teaspoon per day) and monitor their stool for any signs of an upset stomach. If all is well after a week, you can introduce another new food.
- Water: Always provide fresh, boiled water. Even spring water should be boiled before giving it to your kitten.
