How to Prepare for Your New Kitten
Welcoming a new kitten into your home is a heartwarming experience. To ensure your tiny new family member feels safe, loved, and ready to thrive from the moment they arrive, a little preparation goes a long way. Hereās a checklist of essentials to get everything ready for their grand entrance.
Quality Food for a Healthy Start
Your kitten's diet is the foundation of their health. It's best to start with the food they're already used to from the cattery and then gradually transition to your preferred brand. Remember that our kittens come from Europe, so even the same brand might have a different formula. A probiotic supplement can be a great help during this transition period. Most of our kittens are accustomed to Royal Canin Feline Health Nutrition for Young Kittens.
Dining in Style: Bowls
Your kitten will need a few bowls: a large one for fresh water, one for their dry food, and another for any wet or raw food you provide. Keeping these separate ensures your kitten always has access to clean water and food.
The Paw-fect Potty: Litter Box & Supplies
A large, stable litter box is a must. We prefer a simple, open-top design with high sides to keep litter contained, like the Frisco Open Top Litter Box. You'll also need a scoop for daily cleaning.
Choosing the Right Litter
We recommend using natural, dust-free wood or paper pellets. These are safe for curious kittens who might try to nibble on their litter. Feline Pine is an excellent choice. You can check your kitten's description to see what they're already used to.
A Place to Scratch
A good scratching post is essential for your kittenās well-being and for protecting your furniture! A sturdy cat tree or a stylish scratcher lounge like the PetFusion Ultimate Cat Scratcher are fantastic options.
Grooming and Playtime
Keep a nail clipper and a brush on hand for regular grooming. For playtime, toys that stimulate their hunting instincts are perfect. The Petstages Tower of Tracks is a favorite among all our kittens, as are laser toys and simple cat tubes.
Creating a Calm Atmosphere
Coming to a new home can be stressful. A calming diffuser can work wonders to help your kitten feel secure. We highly recommend the Comfort Zone Calming Diffuser Kit, especially for more sensitive breeds or if you already have other pets.
With a little preparation, you can create a welcoming and loving environment for your new kitten, setting the stage for a lifetime of happy memories together. We're so excited for you and are here to help every step of the way!
